About Our Centre

River Heights Childcare Centre, is dedicated to providing your child the highest quality of care. We are a family owned and operated centre that has been serving the community for over 20 years. Our staff is highly experienced and qualified, with a combined 80 years of experience in the industry. We pride ourselves on our personalised approach to care and our ability to meet each child's individual needs. We believe every child is unique and strive to provide a positive, nurturing environment where each child can thrive.

Our centre was established in 2002, and our founder is a professor of child care responsible for training early childhood educators. The centre’s owner, Robin, has a Bachelor's in child care/early learning, and she ensures that all of our staff are qualified in child care and/or early childhood learning.

River Heights Childcare Centre is the only childcare centre in town with two men on staff, and we always have at least one male staff member on duty. We are proud to be able to offer this unique perspective to our families, as we believe that having male staff members provides a positive balance for children, encouraging different approaches to learning and play.

If you are looking for a childcare centre focused on your child's development, River Heights is the perfect place. Our dedicated experts in child care are here to help and encourage your child to be their best. Contact us today to learn more about our centre or to schedule a tour.

River Heights Child Care Philosophy

River Heights Childcare Centre is a safe, caring and nurturing environment established to provide education and care for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years old. We believe that by providing a positive and stimulating environment based on the concept of “home,” each child will feel a sense of belonging. Research tells us that children develop and learn best in an familiar and secure environment; the term “home” best describes this for us.

The centre is a “home” shared by many families, including the staff, parents, children and community. We are also a “school”, where children learn and develop and, at times, may not look like their homes, but this belief of home is at the centre of all our decisions. For example, while lunch comes in a box from home, it is served on plates at a table.

We honour diversity in our community and believe that all children are special and different from each other. Each child is respected and nurtured to stimulate growth in confidence and self-esteem. Establishing a relationship triangle between parents/ staff and children is central to a quality early childhood program. The children can think for themselves and develop independence, a sense of sharing and cooperation in our environment. The children are encouraged to explore, make decisions and find understanding and meaning in their work and play. Families are welcomed, supported and valued in our setting.

The curriculum at River Heights Childcare Centre is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework and is a “live” document; this means the staff, children and families are encouraged to develop and contribute to the program. The curriculum allows flexibility so children’s agency can be facilitated. It also includes intentional teaching opportunities to assist children in developing the skills needed in their next learning phase. This is most prevalent in our preschool program as we prepare children for school
